3 Tips For Creating An Accessible And Inclusive Wedding

Weddings

6 Dec

If you have a wedding that you’re in the midst of planning, you might be working hard to balance what you want for the wedding and what is going to be best for your guests. And while this wedding day is primarily about the people getting married, if you’re inviting people to the wedding to celebrate with you, you should consider what you need to do with the planning to ensure that everyone there has a great time.

To help you with this, here are three tips for creating an accessible and inclusive wedding.

Consider The Needs Of Your Guests

At your wedding, you’ll likely personally know everyone that will be there. With the knowledge, you should be able to figure out what some of their needs might be and then plan accordingly so that you can make the event accessible and inclusive for them.

If you’re inviting elderly family members who will be coming from assisted living facilities, you should seek to find a wedding venue that will be safe and easy for them to get around. If you have friends or family members that are hearing impaired, seating them near the front or having someone doing sign language can be incredibly helpful. Whatever the needs of your guests are, try to figure out how you can accommodate them so that they can have a great time at your wedding, too.

Enhance Guest Experience With A Thoughtful Seating Chart

At both the wedding ceremony and the reception, many couples choose to have seating charts. So if this is the route you’re going, make sure you think about the experience that each guest will have at the seat you’re putting them.

For some people, being closer to exits or a restroom will be helpful for them. For others, being close so that they can see and hear what’s going on more easily will make the experience better. So as you’re figuring out the seating chart, make sure you’re being thoughtful about accessibility and inclusivity.

Provide A Childcare Option

Weddings can be a tough situation for children to be in. And while you might not want the distraction that can often come with having little ones around, many parents can’t find childcare for weddings.

Knowing this, if you have a number of people coming to your wedding that have small children, you may want to provide an option for childcare for them. This way, their children will be cared for and nearby without being disruptive or taking away from the experience for anyone else at the wedding.

If you want your wedding to be accessible and inclusive for everyone on your guest list, consider using the tips mentioned above as you plan for this event.
