Living Together: How to Make Space for Your Partner

Lifestyle

7 Mar

If your partner is moving into your home, you must make changes and tweaks to your living space to ensure they feel comfortable.

While the property might have served as your home for a long time, it must become a 50/50 split, which extends from your closet space to décor changes. To live in harmony throughout the years, read the following advice on how to make space for your partner.

Consider the Flow of the Day

Before setting your heart on the side of the bed or a computer staying inside your bedroom, consider the flow of each day. For example, if your partner wakes at the crack of dawn for work, it makes sense they will sleep on the side closest to the door, which will allow them to creep out the room quickly.

If they work from home at night, it might not make sense to keep a desktop PC in your bedroom. Think about your daily lives before making key decisions to prevent arguments.

Start Decluttering Your Possessions

Start afresh in your property by decluttering it before your partner moves in. Work your way through your shelving, drawers, storage baskets, ottomans, and more to identify the items you want to keep, donate, or recycle. It will create a tidier home for your new partner while ensuring they have space to store their belongings, too. Also, encourage your other half to purge their possessions before they move in, as it will prevent them from filling the home with unwanted or useless items.

Prep Your Closet

It is essential to prepare your closet for your other half’s arrival. As they might have many clothes, you must ensure you make space to hang their tops, jackets, jeans, and footwear. It is an ideal opportunity to say goodbye to clothing you have held onto but never wear. Remember, you can rotate seasonal clothing with under-bed storage boxes or vacuum bags, which will increase space in your closet and drawers.

In addition to purging clothes you don’t need, ensure your partner has the best hangers and storage options for their needs. If your current hangers have seen better days, you can buy plastic hangers in bulk to ensure you and your other half have all the options you’ll need for your tops, bottoms, outerwear, suits, dresses, and more.

Create a Quiet Space

Moving in with your other half is bound to feel exciting, as it is the next step in your relationship and will allow you to create many more wonderful memories together. However, it is crucial to have a space to relax and enjoy some alone time when needed, which will prevent tension or arguments.

Create a quiet space in the home by adding an armchair in your bedroom for you or your other half to read, send an email, or make a call without disruption. After enjoying some much-needed silence, you can have fun, relax, or perform various household chores together. Just because you are living together doesn’t mean that you don’t both need some time to yourself occasionally. A quiet space is going to help with this.
