Do you need to get a ring and you cannot figure out ring size for yourself? For whatever purpose, read this post for tips on how to measure your ring size.

It takes quite a little to figure out ring size, even though it’s a headache. You’ve done endless researches on how to know what size of ring you wear. And almost all the time, you end up with conflicting reports. This ends up confusing you so much, you don’t know the next thing to do

There’s also the man who wants to surprise his woman with a proposal. But he does not know the first thing about wedding band sizing. An engagement ring should never be imperfect, and that’s the beauty of it.

Rings should not be so loose they fall, or so snug they hurt. Another thing is that ring size difference between fingers of your dominant hand is more the other. There are also other factors to consider.

We’ve put in this post, accurate ways to measure ring size. Read through to find the ring sizing tips you seek.

Start with the basics

Like we said earlier, lots of factors influence finger diameter and ring sizes in general. They range from environmental factors, to finger shape, metal bandwidth, etc. They may cause you to go for a smaller or bigger ring size.

Rings come in sizes of 3 to 13 in the United States and Canada. The average female ring size is 6 while the average middle finger ring size is 7. But a fluctuation can occur due to some reasons.

Environmental and biological factors such as pregnancy, diet, and genetics are key players. The difference in ring sizes could as a result of cold or heat. Fingers shrink in cold and swell in the heat.

The finger shape we got is also a culprit. While some have tapered fingers that are wider at the base, others have knotted fingers. Because tapered fingers are wider at the base, rings may fall off with ease. So you need something with a snug fit.

People with knotted fingers have wider knuckles and slimmer bases. So, between the base and knuckle, you’d pick a fit. This is crucial when you’re learning how to measure your ring size. Another vital thing to consider is the bandwidth of the ring. The thicker the metal is, the smaller the size and vice versa.

A size 8 thick band metal will not size the same finger as a size 8 thin metal. Hence, if your mind is set on a particular ring, know what metal to go for.

How to measure your ring size

We get this one question so often “how do I measure my ring size?” It may be a case of wanting to DIY at home, and buy rings online. It may also be that they want to surprise a loved one without them raising a brow.

First off, there are printable ring size guides by experts online. Second is that the available women ring size is 3 to 9 and 8 to 101/2 for men. Sizes 5 to 7 are most purchased for women, with average as 6. For men, the most popular size is 9. This information will guide you as you measure your ring size. Below are the steps.

  • Wrap a piece of paper or string around the base of your finger and make it fit. But make sure it’s loose enough for easy removal.
  • Strike a mark with a pencil at the point where they overlap.
  • Take it to ruler and measure in millimeters.
  • You can also put it against the ring sizes on the printable guide to know your fit.
  • If you want to use a ring you own, measure the inner diameter and outer circumference. You may also put it against the sizes on the printable ring guide. It is close to perfect.

But there may still be some discrepancies. So, if you’re not satisfied with your measurements, see a jeweler.
