Why Gold Is A Popular Wedding Gift

Budgeting & Finances

16 Jan

A wedding is a wonderful event that is celebrated in every culture in the world. In Asia and India, it has long been a tradition for the bride to be gifted with 24k gold. The same goes for South American cultures and even parts of the US incorporate a gift of gold into the wedding reception. It is no secret that gold has always been connected to wealth; when a girl is to wed, gold is gifted to provide the new family wealth and resources for their journey ahead as a family unit.

Gold Jewellery

In some parts of India and Pakistan, it is customary to present the bride with some 24k gold jewellery; a ring, a necklace, or a bracelet, are the common items. The 24k gold jewellery can be sold to any registered gold shop and most couples use this to support their first home. A father might, for example, commission a pure gold necklace for his daughter, which would weigh an ounce or even two. A thick gold chain is a valuable resource to have in Asia and it is customary to store wealth this way. In parts of Europe, it is traditional for the father to give his daughter a gold ring on her wedding day. Which is nothing to do with the actual wedding ring worn by both bride and groom.

Gold Ingots

In most parts of India, for example, the bride might receive small 10gm ingots from family members, which would be liquidated to buy furniture and other essentials that a newly married couple would need. If you would like to gift a bride a gold ingot, you can buy some at a reputable Brisbane gold bullion dealer or a leading dealer in your location. If your daughter is getting married, this would be a wonderful gift, which she will welcome warmly.

Family Heirloom

The upper classes would often present their offspring with a piece of gold jewellery that has been in the family for centuries and this still happens today with some wealthy clans. Of course, if you wish to acquire gold and present it to your best friend on her wedding day, simply search online for a gold bullion dealer near you, and you can choose a small ingot or commission a piece of jewellery. Some antique pieces have been handed down for many generations and would be very valuable.

American Traditions

In some parts of America, the father would give his daughter and her husband a gold nugget, which has its origins in the great gold rush. This was to help with setting up a home and it seems like there might be a revival of this practice, as more and more parents help their kids start out as a couple.

It is no surprise that gold finds its way into many cultures, particularly at weddings. With the cost of living so high, every bride (and groom) would welcome such a gift. Gold prices are rising steadily, as demand increases due to volatile markets caused by the pandemic.

If you are looking to diversify your investment portfolio, gold is very secure and has given a good return in the last 3 years. Talk to a gold bullion dealer and arrange an appointment at their offices, when you can take physical possession of your assets. Once you register with the bullion dealer, you can buy or sell in real-time.
