Wedding Favors On A Budget

Blog· Parties & Events· Weddings

25 May

As lovely and romantic as weddings are, they are an expensive occasion. Not everyone can rely on parents to stump up the cash, and being in debt by taking out a loan is not the wisest way to being married life. With so many different elements and accessories included in a wedding, you may have already had to forgo a lot of them. One part you may have considered removing completely is the giving of wedding favors, but with these fun on-a-budget-ideas, you can still leave these traditional gifts at place settings without breaking the bank.

Bags of candy

It is quite common for favors to be little pouches of candy, and many brides and grooms choose to purchase them ready made. However, this is the expensive option, and creating them yourselves is a much cheaper choice. Purchase little organza bags and candy in bulk from online wholesalers, and make up these favors yourself. It can be a more time-consuming option than premade favors, but if you turn it into an event in itself by having some of the wedding party come around for drinks and nibbles as you make them, it will be a fun part of the wedding preparations.

Fun fact cards

Favors are an excellent way to get guests talking, and if there are guests seated next to people they don’t know, fun facts cards will get the conversation flowing. Make your own by visiting Factsd.com and accumulating fascinating facts from its inciteful pages. Purchase some stiff card and cut neatly into rectangles before calling on a friend with neat handwriting, or trusting yourself, to write a fun fact on each card. Again, time-consuming, but definitely worth it when you see your guests laughing and gasping at the weird and wonderful facts you have shared with them.

Homemade cookies

Take a simple recipe like 1,2,3 cookies, so named as they only have three basic ingredients, and bake up a few batches before decorating with ready rolled icing and piping, or imprinting the individual guests’ names, or your names, on them. Not only are these super cute, but they could stave off any hunger pangs should the wedding breakfast be running a little late!

Two-in-one

Save money by using favors as centre pieces when you plant your own seedlings in pretty pots and label each with the name of the guest receiving it. These kind of favors work well in an outdoor setting and can be placed in the middle of the tables with brown labels hanging from rustic twine.

Flower seeds

You can buy these ready made in little sachets, or embedded in recycled paper, but it can be cheaper to make your own mini bags of seeds. Buy paper bags in bulk and if you are purchasing plain bags write the name of the guest, or the date of your wedding on each. If you choose to purchase decorated bags then don’t worry about needing to personalise them. Seeds can be bought in bulk from local gardening stores or online.

Enjoy creating bespoke wedding favors on a budget.
